Butter Twists

These cookies are a beauty in looks and delicious in taste!

It is a quick recipe and does not take much time!

Dough is made with plain flour, sugar, butter, egg white and vanilla essence and you can be creative and make your own design:)

This Martha Stewart recipe and I really liked the simplicity and creativity in these cookies:)

Ingredients:
Plain flour or maida- 1and 1/2 cup-170 gms+2 tbsp,
Sugar granulated ( powdered)-1/2 cup or 95 gms-(used 70 gms of powdered sugar and the sweetness is right),
Vanilla essence-1tsp,
Butter softened-100gms,
Egg white-1.

Egg wash-1 egg white +1 tbsp of water- mix with a spoon( optional)

Note: you can add sugar according to your taste,if you add less and think the twists are not sweet enough, can always dust icing sugar on top.

Method:
Line butter paper on your baking tray.
Put butter and sugar in your mixing bowl.
Start on low speed as the powdered  sugar will fly out.
Raise the heat to high and beat till creamy (2 minutes).
Scrap the sides with a spoon.
Add vanilla essence and egg white.
Beat for a minute.
Add the flour on low speed and mix until combined.

Gather the dough into a ball.
Cover the bowl with a cling film and put in the frezeer for 10 minutes for the dough to firm up.
Take out and divide the dough into 18 small balls.
Roll each ball into 6 inch log.
Bend the log in half and then twist.
Place the cookies 1 inch apart on your baking tray.
Put the tray in the fridge for 10 minutes for the cookies to firm up.

Pre heat oven to 350 F or 180 C.
If you like to give your cookies a shine, then brush the top with egg wash just before baking.
Bake the cookies for 15 minutes rotating halfway through or till the edges of the cookies turn brown.
When the edges turn brown, then cookies are done, but if you like your top to be brown then bake for few minutes more.
Remove from oven and let it cool for 5 minutes on wire rack.
Transfer the butter paper with the cookies to wire rack to cool for 5 minutes more.
Remove the cookies to wire rack and let it cool completely.
You can enjoy these cookies while still warm!
Makes 18 cookies!
