This dish is made with pomegrante,walnuts, pepper,nutmeg and cinnamon.The taste is very good and the flavour is unique!
Ingredients:
Chicken-700 to 800 gms,
Onion medium-2-finely chopped,
Garlic-10-minced,
Tomato-2-finely chopped,
Crushed pepper-1tsp,
Nutmeg-1/4 tsp,
Cinnamon pwd-1/4 tsp,
Walnut-2 tbsp-soaked and then grind to a paste-( It is better to roast and then soak it-roasting removes the stale taste ( after the rainy season) of the walnuts and enhances its flavour)
Pomegranate-1-remove the seeds in a bowl and take out 2 tbsp for garnishing.
Salt to taste,
Method:
Grind the walnuts using little water and make a paste.
Take out in a bowl and keep aside.
Rinse the grinder bowl with little water and keep aside in a bowl.
Grind the pomegranate seeds in the grinder for few minutes.
Take out the juice in a bowl.
Rinse the grinder bowl with water and keep aside in a bowl.
Heat 3 tbsp of oil in a kadhai.
As oil heats up,add the finely chopped onions.
Raise the heat and stir fry the onions till translucent.
The onions have to be just soft.
Add the minced garlic and saute for a minute in low to medium heat for a minute.
Add the tomatoes and raise the heat.
Mix and cover for one minute to soften the tomatoes.
Lower the heat to low.
Remove the lid and raise the heat to medium and using your wooden spoon,crush the soften tomatoes.
Once the tomatoes are cooked,add the chicken pieces.
Raise the heat to medium and high and stir fry the chicken or till oil separates( 3 to 4 minutes).
Once the chicken is fried,lower the heat to medium and add crushed pepper and salt.
Bhunno for a minute.
Keep the heat medium to low.
Add nutmeg pwd and cinnamon pwd.
Bhunno for a minute.
Add the walnut paste.
Mix and bhunno for a minute.
Add pomegranate juice and raise the heat.
Mix and add 1/2 cup of water ( rinsed water from the grinder bowl)
As the gravy starts to boil,lower the heat and put a lid on.
Let it cook for 20 minutes or till your chicken is done.
This dish has a thick sauce and sticks to the chicken.
Sprinkle pomegranate seeds just before serving.
Goes well with roti,raita and salad.
It will go very well with bread and green salad.
